Renovation1 General theory
For a long time after the war, architecture was a symbol of industrialized society. Anything that has a form is destined to deteriorate over time. Architecture, exposed to the elements, is no exception to this rule. In Japan, we have seen a continuing era of cyclical building, tearing down, and building again.
As society has matured and reducing environmental impact has become a global goal, however, the architecture world has also shifted from “scrap & build” to “stock & renovate.”
Historic buildings, those that convey the culture and memories of the land, have the power to draw people in. In order to pass these buildings on to the next generation, it is necessary to carry out appropriate renovations. Preservation, revitalization, and utilization—through this cycle, buildings increase their value and contribute to strengthening the appeal of the city.
We will continue working to enhance the value of buildings through renovation.
