Entering a Translation Rights License Pact with Shikairengokyotei

Our company has entered a license agreement for translation rights with the Architectural Design and Supervision Contract Clause Survey and Research Association (Shikairengokyotei) of Japan.

Although an English edition of the Private (Seven Group) Associations Agreement Construction Contract Terms and Conditions (General Conditions of Construction Contract) has been issued, Shikairengokyotei Architectural Design and Supervision Contract Terms and Conditions, usually used in Japan, has not received a translation. This has made it challenging to provide Japan’s general terms and conditions for design contracts when required by international clients.
To overcome this problem, we were able to acquire a “license agreement for translation rights” from Shikairengokyotei, meaning we can now take responsibility for creating an English version. This is the first time that this licensing agreement has been granted in Japan.

Previously, adapting the English design contract terms and conditions of international clients to Japanese regulations was a considerably time-consuming process, but with the use of the English edition of Shikairengokyotei, the process can be significantly shortened. Furthermore, in the case that architecture on an international client’s property is designed rightfully by first-class licensed architects of Japan, it will be possible to follow the natural flow of using Japanese design clauses according to Japan’s regulations.
