In 2024, marking its 100th anniversary, Yasui Architects & Engineers moved its Tokyo office to a 60-year-old building in Mitoshirocho, Kanda.
Architecture generates a significant amount of CO2 during and after its construction. What can be done to limit the environmental impact? After careful deliberation, we decided to renovate and reuse an existing building. We will keep evaluating the fruits of our commitment to a sustainable society from various angles.
The new office’s concept, chosen in an in-house competition, is “opening up to the outside.” With “Mitoshiro Creative District” added to its name, the office is casting its net wider, encouraging interaction with the surrounding area.
While respecting the history and memories of the architecture and neighborhood, what special measures were taken to renovate this 60-year-old building? Topics will introduce the new Tokyo Office and how it envisions the future workplace.
