Yamatocho Sportspark Passerelle is a sports hub that seeks to improve community well-being and become a bridge connecting generations and users from and out of the town via sports. The facility was also designed to function as a disaster management center and shelter in case of a large-scale disaster. The large span of the main arena roof was achieved with steel keel and bowstring trusses made from hinoki cypress wood from the town’s forest. Simple joinery was meticulously adopted to eliminate the need for complex pre-cutting, boosting the exploitation of such small-diameter local lumber.
