We are pleased to announce the publication of the book “The Story of Suntory Hall ~ In Pursuit of the World’s Most Beautiful Sound,” which we authored and edited.
This bound book was published on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the birth of Suntory Hall in 1986, and 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shoichi Sano (1921-2014), who led the design of Suntory Hall.
Suntory Hall is one of Japan’s premier concert halls, attracting audiences from both Japan and abroad. The book discusses about how the hall’s reputation as having the world’s best acoustics was established and how it was developed over the years. The book includes not only essays by people involved in the architectural and acoustic designs, but also conversations with top artists, together with examples of concert halls overseas.
It is a compilation of stories on the design, renovation, and operation of Suntory Hall supplemented with a wealth of photographs, and will help the readers to understand the history and future of Suntory Hall, which Maestro Karajan praised as being “like a jewel box of sound.”
