Reversible Destiny Lofts Mitaka is the first residential units created to embody the thoughts of Shusaku Arakawa and Madeline Gins. We have taken part in the project since its planning phase.
To aid its repair costs and hand over this historic masterpiece to the next generation, a three-month crowdfunding campaign was raised. As a result, the initial goal of 10 million yen was successfully achieved, with 832 people contributing the total amount of 13,958,936 yen, or approx. one quarter of the entire repair cost.
The repair work will be started on the parts in need of immediate care, such as renewing the fireproof paints on the exterior corridor connecting the three buildings. The progress of the work will be posted on their social networking pages.
They are also planning an international conference in March this year in Kyoto University of the Arts, discussing Arakawa and Gins. The conference will be a guide to seek life in a post-COVID world as it deals with the thoughts of the two artists who have always referred to the changes that architecture as an environment makes to the human body.
