Promoting Woodification in Architecture for CO₂ Reduction

Woodification of Architecture 1 Overview
The global community shares the challenge of promoting carbon neutrality and decarbonization to combat climate change. In Japan, where forests cover 67% of the land, the use of timber in public architecture is encouraged as a measure against the deterioration of woodlands. Consequently, the woodification of architecture is gaining attention.
Wood, which absorbs CO₂ for growth, can help reduce CO₂ emissions when used as a building material. As forests are sustainable resources, utilizing timber not only aids environmental conservation but also promotes local industries.
In October 2021, we pledged “to go carbon neutral.” As a company, we have made environmental preservation the foundation of our design activities.
Wooden spaces offer a sense of tranquility and connect us with nature. While these effects may be difficult to quantify, they undeniably stimulate our senses. We believe it is not just about using wood but also about embodying the environment itself in our designs. We are committed to reimagining the connection and interaction between nature (forests) and people (users) and promoting the woodification of architecture as part of our social responsibility.
