Wooden building promotion 4 The Koyasan Learning Forest
The Koyasan Learning Forest an elementary and junior high school, a kindergarten, a community center, and a school lunch center in one facility. The multi-purpose complex facility is intended for cross-generational use. Committed to building interest and affection towards the facility among the townspeople, Koya Town held workshops, etc., from the initial planning phase to create a learning center that promotes interaction between residents and their children.
Koyasan Kindergarten was completed in 2022 and opened in the spring of 2023. The same school building received a subsidy from the Kishu Wood Public Facilities Timber Construction Model Venture with bright, wholesome spaces featuring the abundant use of local Kishu wood in both the interior and exterior.
Local wood is also used for the school buildings’ facades and louvers for the library. By having residents learning about the wood cycle, such as tree felling, processing, and tree planting, as well as the use of wood from forest thinning, the community can become more invested in the town and facility. In this way, the making of the exchange center continues.
