In-house competition: Behind-the-scenes Part 1
Design proposals for the new office were gathered through an in-house competition. The concept of “open to the outside” drew the most attention out of the 20 proposals received from the entire company.
“The office is a place where we sometimes spend more time than we do at home. How, then, can we utilize this space to be ourselves? This is where the discussion began,” explains the selected team, who proposed an office and mindset where one can be who he or she want to be.
The competition targeted all the floors, but the proposal ultimately concentrated on using the first floor to open up and connect to the outside. The “Mitoshiro Creative District” is a place to challenge and practice new approaches to work, founded on the principles of “freedom, autonomy, self-governance, independence, and self-discipline.”
As a space for experimentation and challenging strictly regulated workplaces, “Mitoshiro Creative District” will keep evolving.
