Marunouchi Trust City / Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo

Large-scale architecture to reflect the city’s level

The planned site for Marunouchi Trust City (Marunouchi Trust Tower N Building and Main Building) adjoins the Nihonbashi Exit Plaza, one of the three station plazas of Tokyo Station. The area is growing as one of Japan’s leading business centers, with a concentration of headquarters of Japanese and foreign companies. After searching for various business forms from the start of the design process, a phased development was selected, in which the N Building was built first, and then the Main Building was added after receiving an urban plan decision for the special urban renaissance district. The biggest theme of the project was to realize a tenant office building of high potential, and we were striving to produce a building plan that would make the most of the station-front location and be suitable for the center of Tokyo. In terms of the dignity of an office building that can be recognized from Nihonbashi Exit and its relationship with the urban open space that is the station plaza, we believe we were able to realize the theme at Japan’s highest spec level. The Shangri La Hotel was invited to be the international hotel for the upper floors of the Main Building, and is expected to play a major role as a supporting function for an international business center.
