Special Elderly Nursing Home Keifuen

A welfare facility for the elderly that brings in the scenery of Kobe’s mountains

Sakura Home (a facility combining day service, small-scale multi-functional residential nursing facilities, home care and nursing, and a daycare center, completed in 2007), stands within the site. On the other side of the road there is a partnered private hospital and housing for the elderly, forming a zone for medical care and welfare. The facilities consist of lowrise and highrise blocks. The layout makes good use of the slope of the land, placing the kitchen in the basement of the highrise block and arranging two living units on each of floors one through five. The top floor of the block is the rehabilitation space, and there is a rooftop garden. The lowrise block contains the management department and community exchange spaces (tea corner and multi-purpose hall), with clear zoning that shortens staff movement routes and considers privacy. The living rooms and dining rooms of the living units are arranged in echelon so that both units on each floor are placed on the southwest corner, which has superb scenery in all seasons. This plan also leaves the way open for future expansion onto the plaza area on the southeast side.
