As the core hospital for the Saidaiji district of Okayama City, this hospital is responsible for acute medical treatment rooted in the community. We created a high-mobility facility to suit the needs of emergency treatment, and separated movement routes for staff and patients, to make an environment which will be easy for staff to use and work in with pride. The wards have layouts with high visibility, centered on the staff stations, in floor plans that give peace of mind to the patients. We worked to provide various places for patients to be in such as tea rooms and lounges, out of concern for their QOL. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are dispersed at four locations close to ward rooms, in a left-right symmetrical layout, to allow rehabilitation training and encourage patients to leave their beds early. There is a heliport on the top of the building, so it is equipped as a center hospital to protect the safety and peace of mind of local people even in disaster situations. The exterior is based on deep blue ceramic tiles, with a clock tower as its symbol, making this hospital a landmark for Higashi Ward of Okayama City.
