Beppu City Public Hall, Renovation

Restore the original appearance while giving the building barrier free access and greater earthquake resistance

Beppu City Public Hall (Beppu City Central Public Hall and City Hall), a historic building, was designed in 1928 by Tetsuro Yoshida, an architect of the Ministry of Communications. It was constructed to commemorate the municipal establishment of Beppu City. We remodeled it, mainly to raise its earthquake resistance and make it barrier free, without harming its cultural value. In the exterior, we restored the large external front staircase, which had been removed. In the interior, we restored the large hall to the space it had on construction, while renewing its acoustic and lighting equipment, and other elements. The large spaces of the entrance hall and foyer were also restored to their initial spaces, with complete remodeling of their building services etc.
