This project is for constructing four complex facilities that will become the core of a new area being developed as the latest model representing China’s development, on a planned site of approximately 58,000m2 on Baisha Island, a suburb of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, China. In 2021, Yasui Architects & Engineers, Inc., won first prize in the Design Competition for Baisha Island Forum Permanent Venue Complex Building in Liaoning Province Shenfu Reform and Innovation Demonstration Zone. Baisha Island is in a wetland with abundant greenery and water, which attracts many wild birds including migratory birds, and has superb snow-covered winter scenery. As the latest economic development model, the area is subject to the Shenfu Reform and Innovation Demonstration Zone—a massive plan to promote structural reform, entrepreneurship, and innovation. In this project, we designed a large complex of facilities with a total area of approximately 120,000 m2, including an international conference center, exhibition and banquet halls, hotel building, and four luxury condominium buildings. The basic concept is “coexistence with the nature of Shenyang—white snow, herons, and Baisha Island” and “development and collaboration by people through creativity, innovation, and creation of the future.” The proposed landscape organically combines urban open spaces and the natural environment, while rationally laying out the buildings with different characteristics in harmony with nature. The plan ensures comfort will be provided to users of the facilities in Baisha Island, surrounded by rich nature.
