This facility, which has shown lively activity day by day in the South Ariake district, Tokyo’s maritime sub‐city center, was planned as a support facility for the international exhibition venue (Tokyo Big Site) that is the central facility of the district. It is a large multi-purpose building in which the 830-room Tokyo Bay Ariake Washington Hotel is the main occupant. It also contains offices, stores, bars, and restaurants. These urban functions are a pioneering cluster of facilities in South Ariake, which is still a young district. It is expected to bring vitality and bustle to the district. The planned concept is to project fresh appeal as a leader in the development of the district, while maximizing the potential of the building’s functions. Passers-by and visitors are amazed and delighted by the unique exterior appearance, produced by the gently-curving white tiled walls, by the main entrance and atrium space on the promenade side, by the hotel restaurant on the top floor, which looks out on Rainbow Bridge and the skyline of the city center, and by many other spaces.
