Hydrographic & Oceanographic Dept. Building, Japan Coast Guard

A government office building that uses the characteristics of a coastal subcenter district

This plan is a multi-purpose government office building that groups diverse applications related to marine information, such as the Analysis Division for survey data, the Marine Chart Editing Division, and storage of base materials for observation, in a single building. It uses rational and economical structural and building services plans to ensure flexible spaces able to adapt to future changes in the organizational environment. Design methods with the first full-scale introduction of BIM (Building Information Modeling) for a government facility allowed architectural planning to include performance checking by simulation of the wind, light, and heat environments.
