This building, named D-Terrace, is a multi-purpose facility combining learning, dining, and assembly functions. The composition stacks the functions, and plans a large, symbolic staircase to link them together, in a spatial composition that loosely connects functions. This plan added R&D roles to the role of Ikeda No.1’s previous role as a factory. In its transitional period, the building was expected to search as a symbol for the revitalization of the district. Taking the concept from the corporate message of “simple,” “slim,” and “compact,” we aimed for a design that would arrange functions compactly and without waste. The east side was planned as a deeply accessible approach, giving a feeling of natural materials under the broad eaves, which generously welcome users. The south and west sides form the design that serves as the face of the company. They use horizontal and vertical louvers in a symbolic linear facade that exercises diverse functions while contributing to the environment.
