We see diversity in places where students gather as one kind of richness in a campus, so we arranged many indoor and outdoor places to bring out students’ vitality and activity. These include spaces under one roof, terraces, outdoor steps, atrium lounges, and interior spaces that bring in light. The scenery of overlapping glimpses of students lives is intended to form the new school building. In its interior spaces, there is a lounge on each floor, and benches and counters in common areas and corridors, to create places for new interactions and encounters, and dynamic learning and discussion. The exterior walls are tiled in the style of Kinki University’s traditional red brick, with as-cast concrete and glass as added materials in a modern composition. The building is unified with the adjacent Blossom Café (completed in 2010: our design). The design of the broad eaves, which emphasize horizontality and cast deep shadows, imparts an easy, relaxed air to the campus.
