HANOI University of Science

A new campus to lead Vietnam’s largest University City

As an element in the Metropolitan Hanoi Expansion Plan, which has been promoted since 2000, it was decided that the campuses of multiple national universities in the city center should be consolidated and relocated to the suburbs. The new “Vietnam National University” has a site area of 1,000 ha. The first phase of the project is HANOI University of Science. The project needed a strong concept to lead the University City as a whole. There is a stream within the site, which runs from top to bottom across the site of University City, crossing multiple university campuses. We incorporated the stream into the campus design as a “wisdom-linking” element, and placed nine faculty buildings along it. The bridges built across the stream symbolize the fusion between various academic fields. Landscape elements, such as the promenade along the stream and the visual axis that runs to lakes and mountains are expected to extend beyond the campus.
