This general welfare facility was built to commemorate the 150th anniversary, in January 2017, of the opening of Kobe Port. The name “Kobe Port Oasis” was decided by a public contest. Kobe Customs, KIITO Design and Creative Center Kobe, and Shinko Boeki Kaikan are nearby historic buildings, and the exterior design of Kobe Port Oasis harmonizes with them. Making the most of the location, which links the town and the port, we planned an event space (Sail Court) with a three floor atrium that unifies interior and exterior. Together with the adjacent Kobe Sannomiya Ferry Terminal and KIITO, this facility generates new lively activity, as the entrance to the port town of Kobe. The 1st floor has a cafeteria and convenience store that are open to the general public, while the 2nd and 3rd floors have multi-purpose spaces able to hold up to 400 people for musical events, and the 4th and 5th floors have offices and meeting rooms. We aimed to create a building that would lead the design of the district and be loved by local people for a long time.
