Fukuoka Prefectural University Faculty of Nursing

We aimed to create an open prefectural university suitable for a 21st-century campus, as a symbol that leads integration with the existing facilities and departments, and local urban development. We aimed for a place that would nurture deep humanity in students through various encounters, and a place of amenity that would be easy for teachers and other staff to work in, as a highly transparent university that would be approachable for people to use easily, as a center of health care, medical treatment and welfare information for the community. We put together a design that makes a wholesome and clean impression, to represent these themes morphologically. The plan develops spaces with diverse sequences in order to achieve interaction between people, and dialog between people and nature. It also places works of art on the theme of “the five human senses” that integrate with the landscaping at key points in the exterior space. We anticipated that this design would lead to awareness of the subjects studied here, to discovery of humanity and of ourselves, and to a spirit of consideration.
