Kobe Center for Medical Innovation

The planned location is in front of a station of the new transit system on an artificial island called Port Island 2nd Stage . The island is being developed as Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster (KBIC) . The plan is to build new rental laboratories which pharmaceutical companies and drug development venture companies can use for everything from exploratory research to R&D into drugs etc. To provide the necessary functionality, the building is equipped with wet labs that can serve as cell processing centers, and with general wet labs. The entrance is on the 2nd floor pedestrian deck level, which connects directly to the station, and the 1st and 2nd floor levels have community spaces inside and outside the building. The aluminum screen skin over the external equipment spaces cast shadows that take on various expressions through the day. This building was designed as a new landmark to lead the scenery of the district.
